SPECIAL NOTE: Monday, October 6,
2003, OEMTF wrote the American Kennel Club to advise
the AKC Certified Pedigree for this bitch, and this
bitch's dam, are incorrect. There is NO brindle in
the dam's pedigree for 5 generations, therefore, the
pedigree is false.

OEMTF apologizes for the nature of
these graphic pictures. Shyanne does, however,
deserve for you to see these pictures. They were
taken when she was spayed. Found inside her was a
badly ruptured uterus, the result of prolonged,
unproductive **hard** labor. In other words Shyanne
labored with no veterinarian intervention, there was
a serious problem and she was not helped in any way.
That Shyanne lived through this ordeal is
incredible, such a situation usually results in the
death of the dam. The photos show dead and decaying
puppies, remnants of bone, cartilege, skulls, fur,
tissue, etc. found loose in her peritoneal cavity.
This scenario (above) is as good a
description of a dog farmer/puppy miller as you will
ever hear. Shyanne was obviously not a good producer
- poor baby.

When questioned,
the veterinarian who performed the spay on Shyanne, gave
his considered opinion of what might have happened to
Shyanne:
1. What does he think happened to cause
uterine rupture? Answer: Terribly unusual occurrence. He
thinks the uterus contracted down (during whelping) and
actually pushed that puppy (or possibly two) through a hole
in the weakened uterine wall. Then the momentum "plugged up
the hole" in the uterus and "walled off" the
bones/fur/substance, which adhered to the lower abdominal
wall, basically in scar tissue.
2. Could Shania REALLY have whelped a live
litter on July 26, 2003? Answer: Maybe, she could have. This
puppy (or puppies if there were 2, he could not be certain)
would have been the last one(s) to come down the uterine
"horn", as the hole was just past the left ovary. He said he
did not count up all the bones exactly to see if indeed they
"added" up to just one puppy, or maybe two. But not more
than two for sure.
3. Wouldn't the post-whelp veterinarian
examination catch this? Answer: Yes, the vet "should" have
felt a lump in the lower belly, and it would/should have
shown up on an xray - if an xray was taken. But if Shyanne
was totally relaxed and showing no visible problems, maybe
the vet didn't even check that carefully. IF they had done
xrays pre-delivery to count the pups, then that would have
also been indicative of a problem, since she would not have
delivered the total # of pups. Even though xrays are not as
exact as an ultrasound for a puppy count, it would have been
a guideline for a puppy count.
This is only the 2nd such "ruptured uterus"
(the veterinarian)seen in his lifetime of practice, and he's
in his 50's - has seen thousands of deliveries over the
years.
