By 2005, OEMTF removed approximately 75 Mastiffs from auction/puppy mill breeding cycles. Additionally, approximately 30 puppies were whelped by bitches in advanced pregnancy when bought by OEMTF, bringing the total Mastiffs removed from breeding to 105.

According to J.A. Webster an un-spayed female, her mate and all of their puppies, if none are spayed or neutered, add up to: 1 year - 16; 2 years - 128; 3 years - 512; 4 years - 2,048; 5 years - 12,288; and in 6 years - 67,000 added to the dog population.

So imagine, just imagine the numbers of Mastiffs that will not now add to the overpopulation of the Mastiff community.

OEMTF Mastiffs are released to FORM, or other legitimate Mastiff Club of America, Inc. Rescue Groups, with policies to neuter/spay as soon as health permits. OEMTF Mastiffs are neither sold nor rehomed by OEMTF. No OEMTF Mastiff is ever bred. If a Mastiff is bred before being acquired by OEMTF and delivers pups afterwards, then the dam is spayed as soon as possible after the birth of her litter and all offspring are altered as soon as FORM Rescue deems they are the appropriate age.

Peripherally, you may know purebred dogs are sold at auction. You may not know these dogs are bred as though they are livestock, a cash crop, well...except livestock are treated better than the dogs. Cattle are bred to live about 2 years then they are slaughtered for food. Commercial dogs are sold through pet stores to homes who expect them to live long lives as companion pets. Instead, many casually, commerically bred dogs turn out to be genetic nightmares. You've heard the phrase "puppy mill." Millers are commercial breeders. Many are USDA licensed. Pet store puppies come from millers and the cottage industry.

The "cottage industry" breeds dogs for brokers. They whelp litters then give them to USDA licensed breeders who consign them to auction or send them to pet stores. Most people will never attend a dog auction. OEMTF tries to give you the "feel" of being there. Pictures tell the story. Study them. Look at the abrasions. Look at the ribs, hips, and backbones that stick out. Look at the hopeless body language and the skeketal bodies of Mastiffs who died from starvation.

These are MASTIFFS. Members of the ancient and noble breed referred to as the KINGS OF DOGDOM. The ARISTOCRATIC GUARDIANS. Please, look at these MASTIFFS. Weep for them. Cry for their sadness, their aloneness, their lack of human contact, in some cases their inability to even respond to kindness when belatedly offered. Mourn the poor individuals that could not be saved.

Two Mastiffs sold while pregnant were foreceably dragged onto the auction block they were so terrified. Some bitches are sold with their infant babies being dangled just out of reach over their heads. This shows the bidders the bitches are fertile. Can you just imagine for a moment the abject fear in the heart of that mother? Noises, chaos, strangers, and her babies out of reach just over her head??? Such a cruel scenario breaks the heart of a true breeder whose priority is the welfare of the animals.
